You may have come across names like email hosting, database hosting and DNS hosting alongside ordinary site hosting. One of the things cPanel gives you is the ability to decide which services you want to offer on it. In email hosting, for example, you have no access to the web server or the database; the account is used only for sending mail.
Email hosting plans are very expensive these days, at prices that are genuinely high. Instead of buying one, you can buy a server and turn cPanel into a mail-only host yourself.
Plenty of hosting companies do exactly that.
