Google today gave users in the US (the United States) on the Labs waitlist access to the early version of Google SGE, its new search built on generative AI.
The screenshots you see here are the first captures of that live search experience on Google’s generative SERP, and they cover only the generative part of the results.
What early SGE users are seeing
According to users, it looks like Google shows a button for short-tail queries together with several suggestions toward more complete, more relevant generative answers, so the user’s search stays more focused and the intent clearer, while long-tail queries come with a generative AI answer.
The results produced with the generative AI answer come with images linked to relevant web pages, and queries related to the original search are suggested as well so the search can be expanded.
The final version of Google SGE
In the final version of SGE, whose experimental build was unveiled at I/O, users will be able to reach new pages and results with images, video or text from anywhere in the search results, by clicking on photos, snippets or the generative answer box for their question.
New features such as Explore and Perspectives can also appear along the results, giving searchers a new and interactive experience of website and web page results. The Explore feature on the mobile SERP, for example, appears after a few scrolls and contains new interactive and visual elements.
These results send traffic to websites and web pages from across Google’s SERP through queries related to the initial search, and the new features play a large part in that.
Since 2021, when Google introduced these visual changes to the SERP as visually browsable, the company has kept stressing that search results are an endless experience of exploring pages and features.
