Duplicate Content vs Copied Content: What Is the Difference?

Last updated: Omid Bodagh SEO No comments 1 minute read

Duplicate content and copied content look alike on the surface, but in practice they differ a great deal.

To put it simply, copied content is what you call it when one site takes material from another site and publishes it on its own.

Google effectively defines this as plagiarism, and doing it brings bad consequences for you.

Duplicate content, on the other hand, usually happens when material is loaded onto your own site, and it comes from a technical error. That is, a single page of your content ends up with two or more different addresses, which misleads Google and lowers your site’s rankings.

In the end, copied content is a type of duplicate content; but if you publish copied material on your site and Google works that out, the fate waiting for your site will not be a good one!
