What is anchor text?
Anchor text is the visible, clickable text (usually blue) of a hyperlink. At its best it describes the landing page and is understood on its own, with no other explanatory wording needed.
That helps users, especially those who use a screen reader, work out what to expect when they click a link.
Impact on rankings: effective
Anchor text was a ranking factor for a long time. Its effectiveness against sophisticated keyword spam shows clearly across the years, and some people even used that spam to manipulate the algorithms.
